Listen to Obituary

Robert “Bobby” Calhoun, Sr. was peacefully called back home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26th. Born on October 29, 1941, to the late George and Catherine Calhoun, he lived an amazing life defined by his love for his family, a dedication to serving others, and an extraordinary spirit filled with so much joy. Robert attended Douglass High School in Henderson, Kentucky. Putting himself before others, after high school, he faithfully served in the United States military (Army).

Another one of his favorite ways to serve others was helping people with their cars. As a retired mechanic of 53 years at Kenny Kent in Evansville, there wasn't a car issue too tough or challenging for him to tackle. He loved seeing the smiles on people's faces when he was able to solve whatever problem needed to be fixed. And while he enjoyed fixing cars, it was really his love for simply helping others that warmed his heart the most. At the center of Robert's life was his family. Robert was preceded in death by the love of his life, his precious wife Petunia, whom he was married for an incredible 55 years. Robert and Petunia were the proud parents of four extraordinary children, Robert Jr. (Sadelle), Ann Trask (Joe - deceased) and Anthony. Robert was preceded in death by their eldest son Bruce. Robert also leaves behind his sisters Pauline Green, Anna Belle Woodson, Carolyn Cooper and a brother, Doug Calhoun, Sr. Robert was also blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We will deeply miss Robert's bright, contagious smile and joyful spirit that lit up every place he would be. God's love shined through him so brightly. Whether he was talking about sports, horses, cars, or serving the Lord on Sundays at Dove Chapel Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years, everywhere Robert went, he brought joy and it showed in how he treated others. While we will dearly miss our dad, papa, brother, uncle, and friend, we are comforted knowing our beloved Robert is home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and we will see him again.

"If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord"
