Judy Garrett McDowell, 74, transitioned from Earth to Eternity on August 25, 2026, at North Park Nursing Home. She was born September 14, 1951, in Evansville, IN, to the late Jethro Landours and Esterlene Garrett. Judy was educated in the Evansville Vanderburgh County School System, attending Chestnut-Walnut Elementary School and Central High School.
At an early age, she became a member of Nazarene Baptist Church and sang in the choir at one time. She often enjoyed singing surrounded by her family and friends. As a young woman, Judy developed a talent for doing hair. She especially loved styling her daughters Charlene and Carla’s hair, a Saturday ritual that included washing, re-braiding, and adding the latest colorful beads. Judy’s culinary skills were showcased with her delicious macaroni and cheese in addition to her chess pie, which everyone loved to eat. She had great affection for her family, demonstrated by her love for her children and grandchildren. After working as a salesclerk at the Evansville Store, Judy stepped into the role of stay-at-home wife and mom, later becoming the faithful caregiver of her daughter, Carla, who suffered from a chronic illness.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Carla McDowell; siblings, Michael Garrett and Cecelia Williams. She leaves to mourn her loss, daughter, Charlene McDowell; grandchildren, D’Aira McDowell and Da”Vaughnsha Carter; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elder Earla C. Johnson, Sheila Givens, and Mark Garrett (Gretchen); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
