James Ireland Bushrod, 71, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026.James was a kind-hearted man who loved helping others and working with his hands. He had a special love for cars and motorcycles, especially those with powerful engines. The larger the engine, the more he loved it. He enjoyed working on cars and took great pride in keeping them clean, polished, and looking their best. James was naturally gifted when it came to mechanical work and was known for being exceptionally handy and resourceful.
James attended Henderson County High School in Henderson, Kentucky. He continued to develop his skills through additional training and earned several certificates in automotive and mechanical work. After high school, he worked as a diesel mechanical technician. He later was employed by Anaconda Aluminum (Alcan) and, afterward, Big Rivers Electric.
James also valued his spiritual life. He enjoyed attending Sunday school, whether at his home church, Greater Norris Chapel, or while visiting his hometown. He cherished the opportunity to learn, grow in his faith, and spend time in fellowship with others.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Velma A. Bushrod-Cabell and Robert “Doc” Cosby; his devoted stepfather, Herbert R. Cabell; his son, Dante Martin;
and his sibling, Gloria Bushrod.
He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Lucy Hancock (Richard), John Bushrod, Margaret Cabell-Fisher (Clarence), Etta Cabell-Holmes, and Darlene Cosby Burris; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many others whose lives he touched.
James will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to lend a helping hand, his love of cars and motorcycles, and the many ways he shared his talents, knowledge, and time with those around him. His generous spirit and the memories he created with family and friends will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
