David E Neighbors

David Edward Neighbors was born on January 17, 1955, in Vincennes, Indiana, to the late William Davison Sr. and Wanda Neighbors. On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 12:37 p.m., David peacefully departed this earthly life at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family at Deaconess Hospital. He quietly answered the Master’s call and went home to be with the Lord.

David attended Lincoln High School in Vincennes, Indiana. In 1973, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served until receiving an honorable medical discharge.

In 1972, at Vincennes University, David met the love of his life, Eva J. Owsley. Their love blossomed, and David eventually moved to Evansville, Indiana. On October 12, 1973, David and Eva were united in holy matrimony. Their union was blessed with four children, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

David continued his education at Industrial Tech School, where he received training in carpentry, automotive repair, and plumbing. He began his professional career at St. Mary’s Hospital, now known as Ascension St. Vincent, and later worked for AmeriQual before retiring.

However, retirement never meant slowing down for David. A true jack-of-all-trades, he continued doing what he loved most: helping others. Whether repairing a car, fixing a plumbing problem, making minor home repairs, or maintaining someone’s yard, David was always willing to lend a helping hand. If something needed fixing, chances were David knew how to fix it!

David also knew how to have a good time. He loved to dance and was often the life of the party, and he loved the Smokey Mountains. He never missed an opportunity to remind family and friends about the many dance contests he won back in the 1970s. Those who knew David knew that when the music started, he was never far from the dance floor!

David was a faithful member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he demonstrated his love for God through service to others. He assisted with picking up and delivering food for the church’s food pantry and frequently provided transportation to those needing rides to the grocery store or back home.

His generosity extended far beyond the walls of the church. David had a heart for people, especially those who were less fortunate. He often offered food or a cold bottle of water to individuals walking past his home, particularly anyone who appeared to be in need. Through these simple but meaningful acts of kindness, David developed countless friendships and touched many lives.

David’s giving spirit remained evident even in his final moments. In one last extraordinary act of generosity, he became an organ donor, offering the precious gift of life to others. His legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to live on through those whose lives he helped change.

David was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Lucile Neighbors, and his parents, William Davison Sr. and Wanda Neighbors.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Eva J. Neighbors; four loving children, Antonio, Kareem, Jamela (Ryan) Goedeker, and Darius; fifteen grandchildren, Anastasia, Jalen, Tre, KJ, Jayvon, Braylen, Noah, Kaliah, Jayda, Lexi, Chole, Zayne, Brooklyn, Brooklynn, and Gianna; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Roni (Leslie) Greer; three uncles, Dudley (Benita) Miller, Pete “Estelle” (Janette) Davison, and J.R. Davison; his loyal companion, Razz; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

David will be remembered for his generous heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, his love of family, and his ability to bring joy and laughter wherever he went. His life was a beautiful example of what it means to give of oneself without expecting anything in return. Though he has taken his final earthly journey, the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and specialists of Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Unit 3900, for the kindness, compassion, and loving care shown to David and his family during his final days.
